Creative tactical games are used to teach players the different roles involved in closing down the ball. Games focus on the principles of pressure, cover, and balance. Developing defenders learn about the proper angle of approach and body positioning. They learn to direct attackers towards supporting defenders, to shift as a cohesive unit, and the importance of keeping defensive shape to limit attacking space.
A defense needs to work together to contain attackers and prevent scoring opportunities. This requires communicating, coordinating, and adapting to react to the movements of attackers. Defenders need to recognize when to challenge an attacker, when to cover for a teammate, and when to drop back to balance the defense. |
