ABOUT THIS PRACTICE Players learn to be comfortable facing and stopping shots. Games and drills give all team players a chance to play as a goalkeeper, familiarizing players with simple shot-stopping and positioning techniques. Players work in small groups. They play games like “Goalkeeper Wars” and run through active shooting drills that provide lots of shooting practice.
SOCCER CONTEXT Although goalkeepers remain the most stationary players on the field, they need a variety of skills. They must be able to catch, kick, and throw the ball. They also must be able to direct other players on the field. Therefore, good goalkeepers tend to have strong physical, mental, and leadership abilities. |
