ABOUT THIS PRACTICE

To improve the difficult techniques involved in hitting and receiving lofted balls. Drills have players practice using different parts of the body to receive lofted balls (feet, thigh, chest). Players learn to cushion balls while putting themselves in a position to shield from defenders. Creative games encourage playing and receiving lofted balls as a way to keep possession and create dangerous attacking opportunities.

SOCCER CONTEXT

A team cannot pass well without also receiving well. Receiving requires a delicate touch and also an awareness of teammates and defenders. Good players can trap or control a ball with one touch. This first touch should put a player in a positive position to dribble forward, pass, or shoot with their next touch on the ball.
