ABOUT THIS PRACTICE Drills give players lots of touches and experience with different methods of receiving ground balls (inside of foot, outside of foot, across body, through legs, etc.). Creative games stress the importance of a good first touch. Players learn to receive the ball in a way that either relieves pressure or puts them in a positive position to pass or go towards goal. SOCCER CONTEXT A team cannot pass well without also receiving well. Receiving requires a delicate touch and also an awareness of teammates and defenders. Good players can trap or control a ball with one touch. This first touch should put a player in a positive position to dribble forward, pass, or shoot.
