What is a practice plan?

A practice plan refers to a detailed description and explanation of the activities that a coach will run for an entire practice.

NOTE - our plans require Adobe Acrobat Reader - download here.

How do I use a practice plan?

You should read the practice plan over before attempting to manage a practice. You should know which activities you want to run, how to set up these activities, and what you want to say to direct and instruct your players.

Our practice plans exist to guide you in every way possible. But, as the majority of coaching still occurs on the soccer field, you need to keep your wits about you. For example, you need to stay aware that an infinite number of problems can arise to alter or derail the course of a practice. You need the flexibility and creativity to make adjustments during practice, to deal with games that don't run smoothly or any behavioral issues.

You should also think about how to best transition between activities to keep the flow of the practice moving. Ask yourself, "Does the set up of this activity work for the next activity?" If the next activity requires a completely new set up then you might want to think about giving your team a water break so that you have time to prepare the next activity without making your players wait around.

How do I know which practice plan is right for me?

You can use the categories we have provided to help you find the best plan(s) for you. We recommend searching the Age and Coaching Level categories.
